What is age-related macular degeneration?

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), as the name implies, is a degenerative disease of the central retinal area (macula) that causes a loss of central vision. It is the most common cause of visual loss in people over 55 years.

What could be the origin of your appearance?

Several factors can be associated with its appearance. Excessive exposure to solar radiation and smoking are factors that correspond to a higher incidence of DMI.

Ninety percent of the patients present the less aggressive form of dry or non-exudative DMI. The remaining 10% are exudative (characterized by the development of abnormal blood vessels under the retina.) The exudative form is the main responsible for central visual loss associated with this pathology.
